Dr. Liesl Folks is the dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University at Buffalo. In 2015, she was a co-author of the ASEE Deans Diversity Initiative letter, now signed by 148 institutions across the US. She has served as president of the IEEE’s Magnetics Society in 2013-2014 and was a member of the congressionally mandated panel for the Triennial Review of the National Nanotechnology Initiative, facilitated by the National Academy of Sciences in 2012. Folks is also the 2013 recipient of the AVS Excellence in Leadership Award, a national award recognizing her mentorship of science and engineering students.
A native of Australia, Folks earned a BSc.(Hons.) and a PhD. , both in physics, from the University of Western Australia. She also holds an MBA from Cornell University.
